Here’s a great list of web2.0 web applications that let you do day to day computing from anywhere. so far, i stick with google docs and keep it simple. other webapps that i enjoy regularly are moneytrackin’ and instacalc.

Great page of information on all the thought that should go into acquiring a credit card from the federal reserve. a must read for financial hopeful’s like me.

in hong kong a gym is beginning to add electric generators to the treadmill equipment to create the electricity for the building. this isn’t a new idea i’m sure, but this is the first i’ve read of anyone actually doing it.

a man in georgia kills a bear by throwing a log at it while protecting his son. he gets a ticket for not securing his campsite. sweet irony.

is apple really going to be able to deliver on the battery life of the upcoming (THIS WEEK) iphone? slate delves into how they may have made this happen.

youtube is seemingly becoming a more legitimate media outlet, signing on a reality tv show for ad revenue sharing.

pretty interesting article (from the sound of it. i haven’t read it entirely yet, but i’m about to) on class differences becoming a factor in which social engine you use (facebook vs. myspace). i use virb for my band, and myspace for exposure, facebook for friends, and linkedin for business. i’m connected baby.

this mirror-based painting is quite possibly my favorite post of the day. this is a painting that can only be viewed correctly with a round kind of mirror. and they did this by hand! in the 1700′s! very awesome.

is america’s technology sector going overseas? this editor at cnet thinks so. and based on what he presents, i’d have to agree. i’ll have to brush up on my russian or japanese. d’oh! those aren’t on his list. :-(

keeping it really real on flickr, this person points out a nice fat finger argument against the iPhone. but looking at the picture of how it will be normally i have to ask, why not both ways?

DON’T FLUSH YOUR UNDERWEAR DOWN THE TOILET. EVEN IF YOU POOP IN THEM.

i haven’t see this guy in so long. i heard they were canceling the production of this or something or other to that effect. i hope this becomes a big screen reality. come to think of it, i may watch some indiana jones this weekend. too bad i can’t download it on my xbox.

Manhunt and GTA are both works of entertainment and arguably, works of art. Therefore, I must have manhunt 2. And you can’t argue that this isn’t just a big PR ploy. They’ve got the M rated version ready and waiting. They just love all this free press. DON’T MESS WITH FREE MARKET, ESRB.

I must not really have a good grasp of business and entrepreneurship because what this guy is doing, while totally understandable and feasible, just blows my mind. On my list of things to check out: Entropia.

Don’t go to work!

This is an insanely long article on global cooling. You know what I think? (not like you really care what I think, but I’m telling you anyways) I think that global warming and global cooling is just about as honest and truthful as healthy eating and dieting tips from food vendors. The more confused about the subject, the more money you will spend/waste in order to “fix” the problem. Also one of the over-arching issues at work that has always bugged me, is the insane amount of pride involved in the science community. My favorite quote from the article:

Climate stability has never been a feature of planet Earth. The only constant about climate is change; it changes continually and, at times, quite rapidly.

Now don’t get me wrong. I like the earth and I think we should keep it in good condition. But seriously, there are agendas at work here on both sides so there’s no point in being totally insane about the topic. Simply keep in mind the well being of what is around you and the well being of future generations.

For my brother, I hope this cheers you up. It’s old school cartoon styles of those funny cat pictures you love.

I’m gonna make one of these like the millennium falcon.

And then sneak around and scare people in one of these.

CONSERVAPEDIA! that’s what it’s come to. as science moves on farther from Christianity, we will only see larger and larger rifts between Science and Religion. And while I 100% totally disagree with the idea that conservatism is hand in hand with Christianity, I have come to the conclusion that one day Christian beliefs of Creation will be as archaic as the Amish’s conviction not to integrate new technology into their societies.

I wonder what was going through this poor girls head. I wonder if the guy isn’t exaggerating the story, because I’m pretty sure his examples above are farcical.

An interesting list of 35 “historical” facts that are pretty rarely known. I was tricked into checking out this site thinking that it was one of those “alternative histories of the US.” You know, critical of how the settlers and the early (to current?) American Government treated the Native Americans and others “not like us.” Bummer.

Who really decides who gets to be the next president? It sure as hell isn’t the American People. In this case some Iowa Tax Relief organization and a Christian Right organization have decided that they don’t want the people of Iowa or America to hear what Ron Paul has to say. Corporate censorship? Maybe not exactly, but something like it.

it seems like web-based-operating-systems (webOS, webtops) are beginning to become more popular. two posts from frantic industries lists 20 webOS’s and what they do/what to look for. personally i remember i had hosted eyeOS some time ago and i used goowy back when it was in its infancy. neither were particularly helpful, though the idea of hosting eyeos still appeals to me somehow.

Cultural lesson for the Chinese enthusiast. My friend at work says they also burn

not just money, we burn other stuff like, house, passport, maids, food, etc….

But, she says it’s not really a party for her family. They gather at a gravesite with the family and have a nice picnic.

Are we really this ignorant of the international scientific community? I mean… WHY HASN’T REST OF THE WORLD SUBMITTED TO OUR AUTHORITY!

Another government switching to Open Source. I just hope this doesn’t lead to the abuse of a system that really can benefit people.

ABC News (reputable?) is reporting on a video from a Pakistani reporter showing a “graduation” of suicide bombers who will go out into the world and wreak havoc on the world (as some would assume). !@#$%^#@#$%^&* is all i can think to say about that.

Don’t steal social security numbers. Don’t accidentally give them away either.

From one of my random “car” subscriptions: How to Buy a used Car. (Girlfriend, you better read this! ;-)

Some sci-fi must sees. Why? Just because some guy on the internet says they’re better than star wars. PFFT.

Interesting article in the uk publication Daily Mail about the physical boundaries given to children. I remember when I was eight I was not allowed to go past the Beans house. Somehow I managed to find woods to play in though.

A mom in Virginia gets time for hosting a sweet sixteen for her son and providing the booze. The funniest part of the article:

Eckert recently helped launch an awareness campaign in the county called Parents Who Host Lose the Most.

Thank-you babysitting socialist pigs!

War Profiteers: Business as usual.

Awesome entry from wired about a G.I.’s guide to Iraq in 1943 and the G.I.’s guide to Iraq presently. Definitely worth checking out.

We should just set a distance from the sun and say, “If you’re past this point, you aren’t a planet.” I know pluto is crying right now. via kottke

From the MAD SCIENTIST files, a man is trying to send information back in time using quantum mechanics. Oh, how the logic of the space-time continuum makes me dizzy.

Funny graphic for those of you who know my emo side. Gotta love those girls that shout “I love you!”

This was on reddit, but I have no idea where the pictures are from, save they’re most likely rednecks.

New electric car with some nice-looking specs. Unfortunately I’m assuming this is out of most people’s price range and the tech won’t trickle down for sometime.

welcome to another edition. this will be a mixed bag, but i’ll sort by source.

From some publication on the Left Coast in LA, word is out that Mr. Wizard died yesterday. I hate admitting this, but for some reason when I watched this on NICK as a kid, I always thought Mr. Wizard was Patrick Stewart. TRAVESTY OF TRAVESTIES.

Next up, from the pages of make!

Surreal Wallpaper! Queue jokes about eating shrooms without all the hassle. But I’m intrigued. Maybe I’ll find a great little room of my own just for putting up this paper.

In early alpha, Wii Media Center X. I’m pretty excited to toy around with this one so I can stop using my XBOX for media. But that’s Bias, since the XBOX hates on my network at home.

A spanish blog noticed a small picture “hidden” on the Windows Vista Business CD. Conspiracy? I think so. God I despise M$, not that this really has anything to do with them. I just thought I’d let you know.

And now from the top lists of Reddit

Straight dope’s response to: Can you open the hatch of a commercial airliner in midflight? BUT WHAT ABOUT IN THE MOVIES?

I would include a more in depth explanation of my beliefs, but I don’t think that this blog is the correct venue for this. Suffice to say that I completely disagree with the idea of “God Said Pi=3” and another article on the same topic, sited by the other. Why don’t you site the Missler/Numerology explanation of the original Hebrew manuscripts that was given in the comments section? And finally in answer to Mr. Dutch’s Question: Your humility. In your presentation of pi, you pridefully assume that you know more than God. This hubris causes you to assume that your interpretation of the Word of God is absolute and final. And with that I will always disagree.

And back to our regular programming. I hope google really isn’t evil. Now that they are moving into universities their market will expand a great deal, as will their access to more information. While I applaud the business of their movements, I am still concerned.

Ninja? In Italy? Who is Russian? Oh the cultural hilarity that ensues.

And now, my new RSS subscription filed under fun: The Fake Steve Jobs Blog!

200706120926

We’re back for a morning edition after an awful downtime while I moved servers. So here we go! This is the digg/reddit I’m lazy and bored edition.

A kid does bacteria testing in his school and finds that the toilets are cleaner. With all the chemicals they use on toilets does that mean they’re actually safer?

A guy gets a tattoo of the zune logo. That sucks. Beers all around!

I’m not really sure what the context of this is, but if you would like to check out exactly how awesome the geography of the Earth is, check out a bunch of lakes on islands in lakes etc. etc. etc.

And finally some politiks. An ultra-conservative blog posting that seems to bite Rolling Stones in the ass. Let me just say, whether you think they have a point or not, I don’t care. Rolling Stone is an idiots guide to politics and I can’t stand it. Mixing politics with entertainment lands you Arnold as Governor.

200705071509

and now for the instructable-icious edition. The first is for all you clue lovers out there. I give to you, the hidden bookcase door. (I don’t think there was an actual bookcase in the clue movie. I think they used a fake wall in the conservatory, a fireplace in the lounge(or study?), I think they used a cabinet or closet in the kitchen, and a painting somewhere else… but i digress). The circumstances for this project are pretty specific, but if I ever have a situation where this would be appropriate, you can count on me to build it. (or just think about building it.)

Next up on the DIY massacre are SLAP BRACELETS. That’s right those insane pieces of metal that they banned from elementary school because of rumors of slit wrists. Oh man, do I love/hate the 80′s. Also, dear brother, notice that the name of the article submitter is the name of one of your favorite 80′s songs.

And finally for the audiophile/yard sale addict in us all – the speaker/headset in an old phone receiver. a must for any dj or musician that’s bored with typical instruments… or just likes to goof around.

Next up is a great entry on Belorussian movie posters. I love Belarus. Nuff said.

A new translation of the bible! IN LEGOS! (Ok so not really a translation, but you know, whatever) Actually I think I saw this some time ago floating out there in space, but I just recently clicked through to it on some blog or another, so I thought I might share it with the crew. Now study up!

And from the factoid department comes the coldest place in north america. Along with a really spiffy picture of a guy and his frozen beard/companion
