Another tasty Friday post! This time with 100% more entertainment and not-serious posting. But its got some serious stuff to. So, on with the fun!
Congress, congress, congress! If you’re pissed about the war, overthrow congress and get rid of your rep and senator. They have the power to declare war and have lamely gone along with Chairman Bush’s illegal war this whole time. Now they are busy not doing the peoples will yet again with two major issues on the table. The spy bill that would free telecoms from being responsible for protecting their clients privacy and the tax cuts that the economy needs (as opposed to the paltry 600$ I’m getting this year). If you want to save the economy 1) convict Bush of an illegal war, and remove our troops from any military base not on American soil (also illegal), and 2) make earmarks illegal.
Ok, now after oversimplifying those issues for the sake of laziness, here’s some more fun stuff. Check out google sky. If you think space is overwhelming, just wait till you try and figure out what the heck you’re looking at on there.
Speaking of space, I just finished 2001: A Space Odyssey. All I can say is… if we didn’t have to waste so much money on the military we too could have been busy finding big monoliths on the moon that turn us into babies and send us back to earth… in 2001. I don’t need to mention what actually happened. P.S. The last time anyone was on the moon was 1972.
Now, not many of my friends care too much about this, but anyone who knows I like anime knows that one of my favorites is Appleseed. This week I finished watching the sequel, Appleseed Ex Machina, and I can honestly say that it is my new favorite anime film. Its got all the great anime qualities (big eyes, hot chicks, huge mecha, zombies, destruction… this is starting to sound like a crappy action flick… you get the point, well, except for the on-going discussion of the dilemma between cyborgs, bioroids, and humans… that’s pretty engaging on an intellectual level) plus really wonderful 3d rendering. I will most likely be purchasing this dvd.
i just found this blog/zine/whatever site that keeps track of web-based apps. it is now both in my reader and in my del.icio.us and i plan on reading it frequently to learn of new and awesome apps to use on the web.
another site worthy of a del.icio.us tag, bust-a-name helps you find the domain name that you want and that is available.
i don’t usually link to lew because i typically find the articles interesting enough for myself, but rarely enamoring (or MOtR) enough to post here. this particular article addresses the quagmire that is US involvement with nuclear weapons.
Snow in Buenos Aires. I’m not too good with international weather patterns, but apparently this only happens every hundred years or so. For those who are geographically challenged: google maps.
Apparently not an uncommon thing to do, but the guy who is Harry Potter wears the same clothes everyday to fool the Paparazzi. I’m not sure how effective it is, but it at least sounds pretty clever.
GOP conspiracy theories are in the thick these days. My ole buddy santorum has been hinting about attacks on the us. now if i hinted that there would be attacks on the US in the upcoming months you can be sure as hell i’d be sent to Gitmo. I’m just sayin’s all.
and to continue my hegemony against the us, this Irish economist points out that the international community is pretty fed up with our economically retarded policies of borrowing more, spending more, and saving nothing. somebody needs to be saying it. bread and circus??? and in case you’re wondering, here’s what he means by two fingers.
this mirror-based painting is quite possibly my favorite post of the day. this is a painting that can only be viewed correctly with a round kind of mirror. and they did this by hand! in the 1700′s! very awesome.
is america’s technology sector going overseas? this editor at cnet thinks so. and based on what he presents, i’d have to agree. i’ll have to brush up on my russian or japanese. d’oh! those aren’t on his list.
keeping it really real on flickr, this person points out a nice fat finger argument against the iPhone. but looking at the picture of how it will be normally i have to ask, why not both ways?
DON’T FLUSH YOUR UNDERWEAR DOWN THE TOILET. EVEN IF YOU POOP IN THEM.
i haven’t see this guy in so long. i heard they were canceling the production of this or something or other to that effect. i hope this becomes a big screen reality. come to think of it, i may watch some indiana jones this weekend. too bad i can’t download it on my xbox.
Some sci-fi must sees. Why? Just because some guy on the internet says they’re better than star wars. PFFT.
Interesting article in the uk publication Daily Mail about the physical boundaries given to children. I remember when I was eight I was not allowed to go past the Beans house. Somehow I managed to find woods to play in though.
A mom in Virginia gets time for hosting a sweet sixteen for her son and providing the booze. The funniest part of the article:
Eckert recently helped launch an awareness campaign in the county called Parents Who Host Lose the Most.
Thank-you babysitting socialist pigs!
War Profiteers: Business as usual.
Awesome entry from wired about a G.I.’s guide to Iraq in 1943 and the G.I.’s guide to Iraq presently. Definitely worth checking out.

We should just set a distance from the sun and say, “If you’re past this point, you aren’t a planet.” I know pluto is crying right now. via kottke
From the MAD SCIENTIST files, a man is trying to send information back in time using quantum mechanics. Oh, how the logic of the space-time continuum makes me dizzy.
Ars Technica’s annual BYOC (Build your own computer) guide. GOD BOX GO!
it’s kind of a slow day at work, and i feel that i’ve been delinquent in my surfing/slacking duties. so i give to you another really long list of internet goodies of the moment.
i’m tempted to put this weird food entry into the abusables department. alas, i will spare us all the fear factor like suspense and give you the frog shake from south america, via megnut.
Somehow, rotten tomatoes gave the upcoming movie “Knocked Up” a 90%. This movie is from the guys that did 40 year old virgin, and all i can say is, “not as good as grandma’s boy.” Now back me up on that one.
From my friends over at the freakonomics blog i give you the wildly titillating headlines of Pravda. I have nothing else to say about this, except wildly out of context hilarity.
Those witty researchers at ask yahoo are at it again. A pretty informative, entertaining, and useless factoid on a homeless man who owns the record to most arrests ever.
I’m a huge fan of the short-lived scifi series firefly, and the subsequent movie, serenity. That said, after further research and planning, there is a really very good chance that I will attend a benefit screening in philly. It benefits women’s equality and rights worldwide.
I wasn’t aware this was even happening, but apparently, there was a sizable digg uprising over a series of hexadecimal numbers that is a key to unlocking dvds. your usual money grubbing mpaa suits were involved, and in the end, i think the light side of the force won out.
Up next: Instructables round up. but i don’t feel like doing it quite yet. maybe this afternoon.
